A Local’s Guide To San Diego

A Local’s Guide to San Diego: Ocean Beach

Beautiful San Diego, California has so many awesome things to do. One of my all-time favorite things to do in San Diego is to visit Ocean Beach. This last weekend I went down and had an incredible beach day with a few friends. Our Day was filled with fun, laughter, and sunshine.

Ocean beach is more of a locals beach. We tend to call it “Hippie beach”.  When tourists stop by,  they usually will find the locals/hippies hanging out living life. (playing music, playing sports, creating art) If you are ever visiting San Diego this is a MUST see place.  Here is a list of activities to do when you are in the area.

Put your toes in the sand

We first started our day with camping out on the sand. We played catch with this nerf football, We tested out the cold water, and of course, did way too many cartwheels in the sand.

Visit the Sea Anemones

Ocean Beach has a beautiful set of tide pools. The tide pools can only be visited at low tide, so make sure to look when low tide will be by clicking this link. When we were here, we got to see a beautiful octopus! It was awesome! If you look closely you can see it in the photo below.

Watch the Sunset on Ocean Beach Pier

Ocean beach has a beautiful pier. The pier is the longest concrete pier on the West Coast. It’s a great place to stand and watch the sunset and check out the cool surfers catching the waves.

Enjoy Local Music and Art

The pier and the boardwalk usually have local artist selling art, jewelry, and paintings. There is also live music being played most of the time as you walk around. Be sure to support them! I have a little rule that I follow which is, if an artist is so good they get me to stop and listen to them, they deserve to get my spare change. I try to follow this rule with any street performer.

Shop until you drop

There are great shops and restaurants on Newport Ave. I personally love the boutique Miss Match. They advertise being a boutique without the boutique prices. (uhhmmm yes, please!)  They have super cute clothes for sale at reasonable prices. You can also shop there online and use the code MM2018 at check out to get $15 off of $100. ( yay! I love a good discount!) There are also many other shops with unique items as well as stores with your typical touristy products. The restaurants are great too! Way too many to list that are so tasty, but we love tacos so we normally hit up  South Beach Bar and Grille because you can eat tacos and have a great view of the ocean.
